Mataguay Scout Ranch Summer Camp

Camp Information

Our San Diego mountain camp, Mataguay Scout Ranch, is a 600-acre property owned and operated by San Diego-Imperial Council. It is located in the backcountry near Lake Henshaw in the Northeast corner of San Diego County, California. A great destination for your unit for summer camp and offers a wide variety of programs. Some of the areas of interest that will be running this summer are C.O.P.E., Range & Target, Mountain Bikes, Aquatics, Trades, Aviation (with Glider Rides), Aquatics, Scoutcraft, and more.

On top of that we will have an Older Scout Program and a top notch Trail to First Class curriculmn.

Our private road is located at: 27955 Highway 79, Santa Ysabel, CA 92070. The A-Frame registration station is 3.5 miles from the highway. This is about 10 miles south of Lost Valley Scout Camp, as the crow flies.

Aviation Merit Badge Program

One of our most popular summer camp program is the Aviation MB** that culminates in a glider ride. Mataguay Scout Ranch features real glider rides thru it's partner SkySailing at nearby Warner Springs Glider Port.

Cowboy Action Shooting

This program offers a fun and safe introduction to cowboy action shooting with single-action revolvers, lever action rifles, and double-barrel shotguns.While attending camp, Scouts BSA and Venturers 14 years of age or older can take part in this special shooting experience. All of this is done in various old-time western scenarios.

This program is offered on Fridays only during freetime.

Trades Merit Badges Program

We will be offering Merit Badges that give Scouts the opportunity to learn more about skilled trades. Welding, Metal Work, Painting, and Automotive Maintenance.

Mountain Biking

Mataguay has opened up new trails for all levels of experience. Bring your own bike or use one of ours. We will also be supporting the Cycling MB.

C.O.P.E.

High and Low COPE Courses - Scouts will enjoy testing their skills and willpower on a circuit of challenging high rope elements and low courses.

Older Scout Program

For those scouts 14+ who are looking for an experience more that earning merit badges, we have an exciting opportunity for them. Our older scout program has 4 jams of action packed adventures that include C.O.P.E., Mountain Biking, and the NRA First Steps Pistol Orientation. While leaving their last day as choose your own activity, allowing for them to explore the other areas of Mataguay Scout Ranch.

Range & Target

Our large range offers archery, .22 rifle, black powder (muzzle loading) rifle, and shot gun shooting. These activities support both Merit Badges & freetime activities.

Pathfinder Program

Our “Trail to First Class” program is designed to help younger Scouts progress toward earning their Scout, Tenderfoot, 2^nd Class, and 1^st Class requirements. Includes the Swimming Merit Badge or swim instruction.

** This Merit Badge class is selected through a lottery system to allow all scouts who wish to participate a fair chance at attending.

Register online and pay initial unit deposit by October 31, 2025 AND pay in full by April 30, 2026. To receive free t-shirts for your unit!

Free Adult Special

Bring 8 or more scouts to camp and pay in full by April 30, 2026, and you will receive a credit for the cost of 1 Adult Leader.

Only 1 discount is allowed per registration.

Payment Policy

ALL camp fees must be paid in full two weeks prior to the start of the camp session including activity fees. Unpaid activity fees within two-week period are subject to cancellation. Registrations with unpaid participants fees at time of merit badge signups may have their schedules dropped.

Unit Deposit is applied toward overall Troop fees owed.

Cancellation Policy

Units that cancel/drop participants will forfeit any payments due by that date, whether payment has been made or not.

‍We have a NO REFUND POLICY.
‍
Each payment is based on the number of campers, not named individuals. If there are any reductions in total numbers (youth or adult) after each payment due date, the unit will be responsible for the money due at the time of the cancellation, even if no payment has been made. We encourage you to find a replacement if a scout or leader needs to cancel. Cancellations due to extenuating circumstances are subject to approval.

Cancellations must be done in writing and emailed to sdiccamp@scouting.org.

FAQs

Monday Check-ins

Monday check-ins (at 7 am) are available.

Fees for Converting a Scout Youth to an Adult Spot.

Scout Youth participant slots may be converted to adult spot. This transfer is charged a $15 fee for the difference in cost, the remainder of the difference is refunded. Less than 30 days prior to camp converting is no longer an option.

Merit Badge Sign Ups

Merit Badge signups will be enabled in May 2026. An email will be sent to all registration owners with date, time, and link a few days before the sign ups go live. Your unit must be paid in full prior to merit badges sign ups.

Mandatory Number of Leaders

A minimum of two registered Adults per unit are required at camp. Adult participants must have completed YPT and be registered in their council. Please contact us if Adult leadership is an issue.

Public Health Closure Notice

If by order of public health officials, the council is not able to conduct camp, we will offer units or campers either a full refund or a future credit for camp with a 2026 price lock; those choosing a credit will be exempt from any 2027 fee increases.

Camperships

Partial camperships are available for those families who need financial assistance.

A Campership can be used towards Summer Camps, Day Camps, Counselor Training Program (CTP), NYLT, and Spring Camp. Only one Campership per year is awarded to each individual; this includes using a voucher from the Boys & Girls Foundation.
